Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to explain the roles of hereditary and environmental factors in the formation of observable traits in living organisms, to teach the relationship between genotype and phenotype, and to provide an understanding of how different genotypes respond to changing environmental conditions. The course also aims to explain the genetic and environmental basis of traits such as growth, development, production, disease resistance, tolerance to environmental stress and adaptation, and to demonstrate the importance of heredity-environment interaction in animal production, breeding, conservation of biological diversity and sustainable production.

Course Content

Concepts of heredity, environment, genotype, phenotype and variation; basic structure and transmission of genetic information; fundamental principles of inheritance; genotype-phenotype relationship; genetic and environmental variation; effects of genetic and environmental factors on growth, development, production and adaptation traits in living organisms; genotype × environment interaction; heritability and phenotypic variation; effects of nutrition, climate, management, housing and rearing conditions on phenotype; epigenetic regulation; disease resistance, tolerance to environmental stress and adaptation; genetic diversity and adaptation under climate change; and the importance of heredity-environment interaction in animal production, breeding and sustainable production.
