General Information
The main dealing subjects of the programme are the organisms, such as insects and mites, abiotic and biotic factors (fungi, bacteria, phytoplasma, spiroplasma, virus, viroid and nematodes) and weeds causing economic losses to the cultivated plants. In that teaching programme, mechanical, physical, chemical, biological and biotechnological control strategies are introduced. The department has the sufficient requirements for the various plant protection activities. Modern equipped laboratories, almost 40 da research and applying area, greenhouse and chamber rooms enable researches to the entomology and phytopathology fields within the department. It's compulsory to do summer training at the end of the 6th semester. Graduated students have the award of Agricultural Engineer at the final of 8 semesters.
Length of Programme & Number of Credits
4 Year - 240 ECTS
Feature & Definition
The Department of Plant Protection maintains its educational and research activities in the framework of two branches, Entomology and Phytopathology. In the field of Entomology, faunistic and systematic studies are carried out with the solution of the problems encountered in production of cultivated plants primarily in relation to insect, mite and nematode groups. In phytopathology division, bacteriology, mycology, virology and herbology work on diseases and weed species, which are reported to have widespread and economical prevalence in the region. The department is in contact with different branches of science such as zoology, biology, genetics, biochemistry, plant physiology, taxonomy and systematics.
