General Information

Çukurova University Adana Health School established in the academic year 1996-1997 has been serving with the 4-year Midwifery and Nursing Programs and 2007-2008 academic year until the spring semester with Adana Numune Hospital. Adana School of Health In March 2008, Çukurova University moved to its new building on Balcalı Campus. Adana Health School, which continues its education by 2015, was closed down by the Council of Ministers Decision No. 2015/8052 published in the Official Gazette dated 27 August 2015 and numbered 29458 and instead the Faculty of Health Sciences was established in accordance with the Rectorship of Çukurova University. There are 5 professor, 4 associate professors, 3 assistant professors, 5 lecturers and 7 research assistants in the nursing department. As of the 2024-2025 academic year, 877 undergraduate, 96 graduate and doctoral students are studying in the Nursing Program. A total of 2,855 nurses have graduated from our department so far.

Feature & Definition

The "Classical Education Model" is used as the educational model in the Nursing Program. The program includes credit definitions in accordance with the National and European Credit Transfer System (ECTS). The Nursing bachelor's program is taught in Turkish and consists of a total of 240 ECTS credits, which include both compulsory and elective courses. There is no preparatory class. Our department offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs with seven main disciplines. The curriculum is based on evidence-based nursing practices, and lifelong learning activities are incorporated. The content of the program addresses the priority health problems and needs of society, and includes learning activities aimed at equipping students with the qualifications of university graduates. Student-centered active learning methods are applied throughout the program. The education system is structured over two semesters per year, making a total of eight semesters. The curriculum consists of theoretical courses, practical courses, and elective courses (both within and outside the field). In the early stages of the program, students take basic medical science courses, followed by professional courses designed to provide clinical knowledge and skills. The main discipline courses offered are as follows: Nursing Fundamentals, Internal Diseases Nursing, Surgical Diseases Nursing, Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing, Pediatric Health and Diseases Nursing, Nursing Management, Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing, and Public Health Nursing. In the seventh and eighth semesters, students undertake professional application courses related to their main disciplines, as well as elective courses, which are conducted three days a week.

Goals

The nursing program aims to provide the basic human rights and freedoms that will provide services at the highest level of world standards that will raise the qualities of human life and health care and to provide the services of the highest standards and protect the health of the individual, family and society, prevent disease, prevent diseases and provide rehabilitation services. to develop nurses who have respectful, scientific and critical thoughts, who perceive them as a lifestyle of constant development, who have the ability to determine and solve the health problems in the best way, who use scientific data in their applications and who will work in line with professional ethical rules.

Objectives

1-Has the up-to-date theoretical knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to fulfill their professional roles and functions. 2- Applies nursing practices in line with the nursing process based on evidence. 3- Communicates effectively and works collaboratively with the individual, family, community, healthcare team and other disciplines. 4- Acts in accordance with universal values ​​such as professional ethical principles, respect for human rights and cultural characteristics, tolerance in nursing practices. 5- Considers the relevant laws, regulations and legislation in nursing practices. 6- Uses information and care technologies in nursing education, practices, management and research. 7- Uses the learning-teaching and management process in nursing practices. 8- Uses lifelong learning, problem solving, critical thinking and leadership skills. 9- Participates in research, project, scientific and social activities that will contribute to individual and professional development. 10- Follows the knowledge in the field by using a foreign language and uses it in their professional practices. 11- It is sensitive to the protection of the environment and the health needs of the society in cases such as natural disasters and epidemics.

Specific Admission Requirements

Students, candidates who show certain success in the central exams made by the Measurement Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) or in the international exams accepted by the Higher Education Council, are placed by taking into account the preference and order of success. The candidate who has the right to become a student completes the final registration with the documents determined within the period announced by the university.

The students who have successfully accomplished this program gain the bachelor´s degree of Nursing.

Qualification Requirements of Graduation

Bir öğrencinin Hemşirelik bölümünden lisans derecesi ile mezun olabilmesi için toplam öğrenim süresinde 240 AKTS ''lik ders alması , bu derslerden başarılı olması ve mezuniyet derecesinin 4.00 üzerinden en az 2.00 ağırlıklı not ortalamasına sahip olması gereklidir.

Access to Further Studies

Candidates who have successfully completed their undergraduate education can study in graduate programs in their own field or related fields, provided that they get a valid grade from the ALES exam and have sufficient English language knowledge.

Internship

There is no internship in the nursing program.

Applied Course

According to the content of the course, students receive practical training at the University and Ministry of Health Hospitals, Healthy Life Centers and Strengthened Migrant Health Centers. Students must get at least 60 points in order to be successful in the application. The execution and evaluation of the applications are made according to the "Nursing Department Implementation Directive".

Work Placement

Students receive orientation training and occupational health and safety training in the institutions where they will practice.

Double Major, Additional Major & Exchange Possibilities

This programme doesn’t have double main branch/lateral branch/fellow programme. ERASMUS program is available.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates of this program can work as manager and clinician nurses in all public and private health institutions, and as institutional nurses in various institutions.
