General Information

Archaeology degree program The aim of the history of human society, culture, language, art, literature, religious belief systems, traditions and customs, mentality and works surviving from them is an interdisciplinary group examining the scientific research and methods. Archaeology old people, old civilizations and cultures, as an interdisciplinary field that examines the multifaceted relationship and interactions with each other, with theoretical and practical study of ancient cultures are treated as multi-dimensional. The studies in this area enables communication and interaction relationship between a society´s past and future generations with the culture lived in the same geographical area; history today, creates cultural richness moving today to tomorrow. Excavations in the framework of the appropriate research methods and techniques in social and cultural structure of theoretical studies as well as human science of human society, surveys, information document management, compilation, archive studies, observations are versatile as discussed in the form of Analysing and scripture study of ancient texts. In this area of social studies of ancient human society, provide a better understanding of cultural and historical structures and contribute to the development of science in the universal sense.

Goals

The primary aim of the program is to educate expert archaeologists capable of evaluating the evolution of civilizations from prehistoric times to the present through scientific methodologies, equipped with advanced practical knowledge and technological proficiency. Our goal is for graduates to embark on their professional careers as competent individuals who safeguard cultural heritage and the historical environment, conduct scientific research on both national and international scales, and uphold professional ethical values alongside a strong sense of social responsibility awareness. Archaeology Department Programme Teaching Aims 1. The aim of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge and advanced practical knowledge of archaeology. 2.To bring the student to the level of professional competence for scientific investigation and research. 3. To train archaeologists who can evaluate the development of civilizations from prehistoric times to the present day and the stages they have passed until today with scientific methods. 4. To teach new scientific and technological methods that are rapidly developing in archaeology. 5. To provide students with the knowledge and skills to serve in theoretical and applied fields (excavations and surveys, laboratory studies) related to cultural heritage. 6. To educate individuals who are researcher, open to development, productive and creative. 7. To educate individuals with lifelong learning and research awareness. 8. To educate individuals with professional and ethical responsibility. 9. To gain basic knowledge, skills and awareness about the protection of cultural heritage and conservation of antiquities.

Objectives

The objective of the program is to provide students with a high level of professional proficiency to perform effectively in excavations, surveys, and laboratory research by integrating rapidly evolving scientific and technological methods in archaeology into the curriculum. Within this process, fostering an inquisitive, creative, and productive academic environment, cultivating lifelong learning awareness in students, and raising high social awareness regarding the protection of cultural heritage and the preservation of antiquities are among our primary goals.

Specific Admission Requirements

Students who have 240 ECTS course loadings in the 4 year curriculum of the department of archeology and have a GPA of at least 2.00 will be awarded the student degree if they successfully complete all the courses together with the excavation internship course and finishing work.

Qualification Awarded

The Students who have successfully completed this program will be awarded an Archeology degree and these will become an archaeologist

Qualification Requirements of Graduation

Students must obtain a grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and successfully pass all courses on the programme (equivalent to a total of 240 ECTS).

Access to Further Studies

The graduates of this program are eligible to apply for admission to graduate studies in same field or related areas if they pass the evaluation process designated according to the regulations of “Çukurova University Graduate Education and Examination Committee”, which includes ALES, general point of average, and the interview.

Internship

After the 6th semester of the education period, As a team member in the scientific archaeological excavation and surface investigations approved by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the General Directorate of Cultural Assets and Museums, they undertake a total of 30 days internship with various responsibilities.

Applied Course

Courses include small find drawing, architectural drawing, computer applications in archaeology, and restoration and conservation methods.

Work Placement

Studies on this educational model, which is also recognized by YÖK, continue.
