Course Goal / Objective

Students will be able to understand the chemical & hydrological cycles in the atmosphere, mechanisms that keep everything in balance in the environment and the causes of pollution in water resources. In addition the water quality standards in Turkey will be thoroughly discussed and compared to some developed countries.

Course Content

Defining water quality and its pollution, explaining the hydrologic cycles and natural water sources, the physical, chemical and biological properties of water, changes in water quality and its environmental impacts, nitrification and denitrification, drinking and irrigation water quality criteria, river pollution and its control, lake and marine pollution and control, eutrophication and modelling studies, changes in the groundwater quality and pollution, protecting water quality and modelling, and water quality standards in Turkey and in some developed countries.
