Course Goal / Objective
The purpose of this course is to teach students the basics of inorganic and organic chemistry as they apply to solving problems in environmental chemistry and engineering. Students taking this course usually have diverse backgrounds, i.e., some students have previously had one year of general chemistry, while other students have two or three years of chemistry in their backgrounds.
Course Content
Reaction kinetics, half life concept, enzyme kinetics, catalysts, adsorption, basic principles from organic chemistry, basic principles from biochemistry, principles chemical equilibrium, acid and bases equilibrium, pH concept, titration, buffers, solubility of salts.
