Course Goal / Objective

This course enables students to develop a scientific understanding of the biological and agronomic characteristics of bulbous and tuberous medicinal plants and to acquire advanced-level knowledge regarding the cultivation, propagation, quality management, and economic evaluation of these plants.

Course Content

This course covers the definition and classification of bulbous and tuberous medicinal plants; their morphological and anatomical characteristics; important species; ecological requirements; soil and climate requirements; propagation methods; cultivation techniques; fertilization and irrigation practices; diseases and pests; harvest and post-harvest processes; drug quality; active compound accumulation; standardization; marketing; and sustainable production approaches.
