Course Goal / Objective

Understanding vibrations of mechanical systems, examining modeling approaches and analysis techniques, evaluating active vibration control techniques and related control approaches

Course Content

Mechanical vibrations and harmonic motion, damped response of free vibration system, forced vibration, natural frequency and mode shapes, quarter car system and body jump motion, modeling of quarter car model in matlab/simulink, half car model, pitch motion oriented model, rolling motion oriented half vehicle model, modeling of half vehicle in matlab/simulink, passive suspension and semi-active suspension models, damping and stiffness control, skyhook, groundhook and stability damping control strategies, active suspension systems, actuators and control approaches.

Course Precondition

Knowledge of basic vibration analysis and control theory is required.
