Course Goal / Objective
Fumigation is a technical process carried out to kill harmful insects/mite and disease factors in all kinds of food and products such as timber and timber products stored in closed environments with a certain amount of gaseous chemical substance (fumigant) at a certain temperature. Chemical warfare still has an important place among the different warfare methods in stored products, and especially fumigation (gassing processes) is a process that is frequently used because it can be applied to a large amount of products in a short time, it is less expensive than other warfare methods and requires labor. In addition, within the scope of quarantine measures, it is a legal obligation to carry out fumigation procedures. Since such chemicals are highly toxic, as well as flammable, combustible and explosive, applications must be carried out by trained and certified persons. Within the scope of this course, it is aimed to apply fumigant substances and fumigation application techniques in an appropriate and healthy way.
Course Content
Within the scope of this course; Information on technical terms in fumigation, fumigant substances and their general properties, effects of fumigants on harmful organisms, side effects on products, fumigation dose and residue, fumigation techniques (vacuum and atmospheric fumigation), spreading and penetration capabilities of fumigants, fumigant toxicity and precautions will be presented.
