Course Goal / Objective

In order to gain a deeper understanding of the historical development of concepts and rules in Roman private law, this course first examines the different periods of the Roman Empire and its legal system. The emergence, evolution, and influence of legal institutions, rules, and concepts from the establishment of the Roman Empire to the present day are analyzed in detail. In this context, the contributions of Roman Law, particularly in the fields of Obligations and Property Law, to private law are evaluated, and a comparative analysis with contemporary legal rules is conducted.

Course Content

This course aims to examine the historical development of Roman Law and analyze its influence on the modern legal system. It explores the transformations that legal rules and concepts have undergone throughout history and evaluates their impact on contemporary legal structures. The course focuses on the fundamental legal principles that have shaped both Roman Law and the current legal system, fostering competency in this area. Additionally, it examines the common legal ties between countries within the same legal system as Turkey, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to assess and establish such connections.
