Course Goal / Objective

The aim of the course is to create knowledge about the sources, effects, distribution dynamics, and transformation processes of plastic pollution in aquatic ecosystems, including the methods used in researching plastic and microplastic pollution

Course Content

The course will cover topics such as: What is plastic? What are the different types of plastic? The historical development of plastic production, the sources of plastic pollution in aquatic ecosystems, how plastic pollution enters aquatic environments, the classification of plastics based on size and shape, microplastics, the dynamics of microplastic formation, the areas of microplastic accumulation in aquatic environments, the effects of microplastic pollution on living organisms, the relationship between microplastic pollution and associated chemical pollution, research methods for investigating microplastic pollution, research methods for investigating macroplastic pollution, and plastic and microplastic pollution in Turkish freshwater and marine environments. The course will draw on various sources and current scientific studies.
