Course Goal / Objective

The aim of microbiology courses is to provide students with an understanding of the fundamental principles and concepts of microbiology. These courses typically cover the history and scope of microbiology, the classification, definition, and genetics of microorganisms, the structure and function of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, microbial growth physiology and control, relationships between microorganisms, the beneficial and harmful effects of microorganisms, the use of microscopy and other laboratory techniques in microbiology, and the development of critical thinking skills to evaluate scientific information.

Course Content

The basic principles of microbiology, the history and scope of microbiology, classification, definition, and genetics of microorganisms, the structure of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells and their differences, microbial growth physiology and stages of growth, control of microbial growth, relationships between microorganisms, the beneficial and harmful effects of microorganisms, the use of microscopy, culture media, and isolation methods.
