Course Goal / Objective
Although some of the insects and mites cause damage during the vegetation period, the majority of them are harmful in different times of the vegetation period, and when the simptom becomes visible, there may be no any pest in the environment. In this case, the appropriate and correct pest management program cannot be selected. These negativities are reflected in agricultural production as time and cost loss. Therefore, the aim of this course is to accurately define the simptoms caused by insects and mites, whether they are in a environment or not, and to give them the ability to decide correctly on the time and method of managenet in agricultural production.
Course Content
Within the scope of this course, it is aimed to give basic information about the identification of pests and mites in natural and agricultural ecosystems, based on the symptoms that occur in the host plant, and the separation of these damages from abiotic disease factors. In this respect, the relationship between the mouthparts of insects and mites and the symptoms they cause in the host plant will be discussed in all its details, depending on visual and solid materials. First of all, the basic evaluation criteria will be discussed about whether the symptoms are abiotic or biotic, and if biotic, whether they are a disease or pest factor. After the symptom is evaluated as a pest (Gastropoda, Acari, Hexapoda), it will be considered how to evaluate the findings regarding the presence of other evidents proving the presence of the relevant organisms in the environment.
