Course Goal / Objective
This course covers concepts related to plant-parasite-environment interactions and disease resistance, underlining the main plant pathogen groups (Fungi, bacteria, viruses and nematodes). The most recent literature on plant-parasite-environment interactions will be targeted during this course.
Course Content
Gene for gene theory, resistance gene management and evolution of new strains, molecular mechanisms of resistance, symbiosis; genetics of pathogen population structure; horizontal transfer of pathogenicity determinants; and emergence of new diseases, Plant defense, Physiological, molecular mechanisms underlying pathogen development and virulence factors Plant virus-host-interactions, mechanisms used by viruses to cause diseases in plants Interaction of plant parasitic nematodes with plants Plant disease resistance mechanisms, pyramiding of R-genes, Interpreting, evaluating and constructive criticism of scientific writings.
