Course Goal / Objective
The aim of the course is to gain a political, cultural and economic perspective by looking at the emergence and transformation of the cinema industry in Turkey from a historical perspective. The production, distribution and screening practices of the industry, as well as audience and film viewing spaces and experiences are introduced and evaluated.
Course Content
In this course, the history of Turkish cinema will be approached from a chronological perspective, while developing a discourse on directors and films, the spirit and developments of the periods will be examined in parallel with the cinematic context. Sample films will be watched and discussed with the students and connections will be made with the present day. The existence of the cinema industry in Turkey will be discussed and the impact of social and technological changes on the practices of perceiving, consuming and interpreting films will be examined.
