Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to provide students with up-to-date information on the use of postbiotics and parabiotics in food cosmetics pharmaceutical industry, production and R&D studies and scientific research.

Course Content

-Parabiotics include a combination of probiotics (health-beneficial bacteria) as well as prebiotics (ingredients that promote the nutrition of these bacteria). Postbiotics, on the other hand, are metabolic products resulting from the fermentation or processing of probiotic bacteria. The use of postbiotics involves an alternative approach to obtaining the benefits of probiotics or improving the digestive system. The aim of this course is to provide information about biotechnology, production, purification and optimization of parabiotics and postbiotics to increase their potential health benefits, sustainable intestinal health and evaluation methods in terms of industrial food-health sector. LO05 Gains knowledge about the use of microbial cells and their metabolites in industry branches; food sector, cosmetics, pharmaceutical industry and similar areas of use in research, literature review.
LO06 Gains knowledge about method determination by investigating the acquisition and production methods of postbiotics.
LO07 Gains knowledge about the importance of starter cultures, probiotics and lactic acid bacteria in biotechnological production by investigating the literature for global evaluation.
LO08 To be able to conduct research on pro-, para-, post-, prebiotics and to develop hypotheses against biotechnological developments.
LO09 To be able to hypothesize about parabiotics and postbiotics and to gain basic knowledge in review preparation.
