Course Goal / Objective

The aim is to provide detailed information about marine pollution by considering various aspects of the seas. The objectives of this course are to provide comprehensive information about the basic concepts related to the seas and then to focus on the relationships between marine life and marine pollution, and the sources, monitoring and prevention of marine pollution.

Course Content

Within the scope of this course, physical, chemical and biological properties of the seas, biogeochemical processes in the seas, definition of marine pollution, classification of pollutants, sources and inputs of pollutants in the seas, movement and behavior of pollutants in marine environments, transport of pollutants by rivers, atmospheric inputs, accumulation mechanisms of pollutants in marine organisms, current studies. pollution levels in the world's seas, monitoring of marine pollution by remote sensing methods, biological monitoring of marine pollution, mussel-monitoring projects in the world, limit values of toxic substances in human food, marine pollution policies of the European community, national regulations to prevent marine pollution, international agreements on marine pollution. information is given

Course Learning Outcomes

Order Course Learning Outcomes
LO01 By defining marine pollution, the physical, chemical and biological properties of the seas are examined.
LO02 By classifying pollutants, hazardous chemical wastes can be identified and monitored.
LO03 Knows the transport routes of pollutants (point and non-point pollutants, streams, atmospheric inputs) and the accumulation mechanisms of pollutants in marine organisms.
LO04 Determines the effects of changes occurring as a result of marine pollution on living things.
LO05 Today, the availability of techniques and methods to determine pollution levels in the world's seas, learn how to monitor marine pollution with remote sensing methods.
