Course Goal / Objective
To explain students how to deal with exploration of fossil fuels and to explain their characteristics and importance in the earth crust.
Course Content
Introduction, fuels as energy sources in the Earth's crust, General classification of fuels, General information about petroleum, Physical and chemical properties of petroleum, Opinions on the formation and origin of petroleum, Reservoir rocks and their properties, Migration of petroleum, petroleum traps and petroleum formations in different basins; Hydrocarbon exploration, methods of exploration for petroleum and natural gas. General information about coal, Physical and chemical properties of coal, Classification of coal, Peat formation, Coalification, Coal deposits, Coal petrography, Coal and lignite deposits in Turkey, exploration methods, Bituminous shales and asphaltites.
