Course Goal / Objective

This course aims to enhance graduate students’ understanding of the ethical principles and practical approaches that guide the entire research process—from initial design to final reporting. Students will explore key concepts including the nature of scientific inquiry, research paradigms, design strategies, and data collection methods (quantitative and qualitative). In parallel, the course will address the ethical dimensions of research, such as informed consent, confidentiality, justice and equity in participation, conflict of interest, and the role of ethics review boards. By combining foundational knowledge in research methodology with a critical awareness of research ethics, the course prepares students to conduct responsible and effective scholarly inquiry in education.

Course Content

In this course, the participants will learn, discuss, and critique the topics on human inquiry and science, paradigms, theory, and research, ethical issues in social research, the tthical controversies, research designs, conceptualization, operationalization, and measurement, index, scales, and typologies, the logic of sampling.
