Course Goal / Objective
This course aims to introduce students to Sumerian, Hittite, Greek and Roman mythologies in ancient civilizations and to gain the ability to analyze the traces of these mythological narratives in space, objects and art depictions. The main aim is to comprehend the effects of mythological elements on interior design and art objects.
Course Content
A comparative examination of the core narratives of Mesopotamian (Sumerian, Babylonian, Assyrian), Anatolian (Hittite, Hurrian), and Classical (Ancient Greek and Roman) mythologies within their cultural contexts. The symbolic meanings of mythological figures, the roles of gods and goddesses, creation myths, heroic tales, and mythological interpretations of natural phenomena are explored in relation to social structure. The course also evaluates the influence of these mythological narratives on art, architecture, and particularly interior design. The use of mythological symbols and representations in spatial compositions is discussed, alongside analyses of how mythological themes are integrated into contemporary interior design projects. The course includes applied analysis and creative exercises aimed at reinterpreting myths through the language of design.
