Course Goal / Objective

To educate students at the species level about Gram positive bacteria species of medical importance, the diseases caused by them and their microbiological diagnoses.

Course Content

1. Gram-positive bacterial species 2. Identification of Gram-positive bacteria 3. Staphylococci 4. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus 5. Streptococci 6. Penicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae 7. Enterococci 8. Vancomycin-resistant enterococci 9. Viridans streptococci 10. Streptococcus anginosus group 11. Other clinically important catalase-negative Gram-positive cocci 12. Epidemiology of Gram-positive cocci
