Course Goal / Objective
The aim of this course is to provide students with an interdisciplinary introduction to the field of peace studies, enabling them to critically understand the fundamental concepts, principles, and practices of peace culture. Students are expected to analyse the relationships between the concept of peace and various social issues such as media, gender, human rights, environment, multiculturalism, and disability; to identify communicative processes in the construction of a culture of peace; and to develop non-violent and transformative communication practices that are sensitive to different cultural contexts.
Course Content
The course begins with an introduction to the concepts of peace, violence and culture, and goes on to examine the relationship between peace culture and topics such as structural inequalities, prejudice, discrimination, microaggression, gender, multiculturalism, human rights, social justice, disability and ecology. Furthermore, the role of media and communication tools in peace processes, methods such as non-violent communication and conflict transformation are addressed in a way that enables students to combine theory with practice. In the final weeks of the course, the focus is on methods and practices in the field of peace studies, with discussions on transformative communication strategies developed with the active participation of students. This course is being conducted within the framework of the EUPeace University Alliance.
