Course Goal / Objective
To provide fundamental knowledge for applying molecular techniques and interpreting their results by understanding their biophysical principles.
Course Content
Introduction to molecular biophysics: experimental approach, Physical properties of biological macromolecules, Cell lysis and the biophysics of membranes, DNA isolation and its biophysical principles: electrostatics and solubility, RNA isolation and its biophysical principles, Nucleic acid quantification: optical principles, Biophysics of PCR 1–2, Electrophoresis: electric field–mobility relationship, Biophysics of qPCR 1–2, Protein isolation and SDS-PAGE: denaturation and molecular separation, Biophysical principles of Western blotting, Experimental errors and biological variations.
