Course Goal / Objective

It aims to provide an understanding of the scope and significance of astronomy, to enable the interpretation of the fundamental properties of celestial objects using data obtained from different regions of the electromagnetic spectrum, and to develop a sense of scale and size in the universe. It also offers a general overview of the structures and possible formation processes of objects in the Solar System, examines the observable properties and evolutionary stages of stars, and introduces galaxies, with particular emphasis on the Milky Way.

Course Content

Introduction to the basic structure and appearance of the sky; the nature of light and telescopes used in astronomy; the overall structure of the Solar System; the properties and interactions of the Earth and the Moon; planets and their natural satellites; small bodies in the Solar System (asteroids, comets, and meteor phenomena); the formation processes of stars and planets; the structure and physical properties of the Sun; the life cycle of stars (stellar evolution); the structure and characteristics of the Milky Way Galaxy; and the diversity of galaxies in the Universe.
