Course Goal / Objective
By the end of this course, students will be able to explain the concept of quality in medicinal and aromatic plants from a multidimensional perspective, define the principal criteria that determine quality, and evaluate the production, harvesting, drying, storage, and processing factors that affect quality. In addition, students will be able to apply fundamental analytical and standardization approaches for quality assessment, interpret quality control processes within the framework of pharmacopoeias and quality assurance systems, and develop recommendations for quality improvement.
Course Content
This course includes information on the definition and importance of medicinal and aromatic plants; the concept of quality; crude drug and crude drug quality criteria; primary and secondary metabolites; the relationship between active compound content and quality; the effects of genotype, ecology, and cultivation techniques on quality; harvest time; drying; storage; pre-extraction processes; foreign matter; moisture; ash; essential oil content; active compound quantity; standardization; pharmacopoeias; quality control approaches; and quality assurance processes, including good agricultural and manufacturing practices.
Course Precondition
No prerequisities.
