Course Goal / Objective
By the end of this course, students evaluate the botanical, chemical, and functional properties of plants used for cosmetic purposes, as well as their active constituent profiles, areas of use, and quality and safety criteria.
Course Content
This course covers the definition and classification of plants used in cosmetics, the principal groups of secondary metabolites, the active constituent profiles of plants, important species used in skin, hair, and oral care, the quality characteristics of herbal raw materials, harvesting, drying, and storage conditions, the evaluation of herbal drugs for cosmetic purposes, the production of extracts, essential oils, fixed oils, and hydrolats, the use of plant-derived actives in formulations, and their assessment in terms of stability, standardization, safety, efficacy, and regulatory compliance.
