Course Goal / Objective

Course Content

Definition, classification, and distribution of trace elements in biological systems; sampling and storage conditions; sources of contamination; basic analytical approaches for trace element determination in biological specimens; biological effects and clinical significance of toxic and essential elements; evaluation of deficiency and toxicity states; biological and analytical assessment of lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium, zinc, copper, selenium, chromium, nickel, manganese, aluminum, vanadium, and thallium.

Course Precondition

There are no prerequisites for this course. However, basic knowledge of analytical chemistry, general chemistry, and biochemistry is recommended.
