Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to enable trainee teachers to evaluate different methods in terms of their developmental appropriateness and to design practical activities, with a focus on communicative and task-based language teaching approaches for children learning Turkish as a second language in early childhood. The course focuses on pedagogical strategies that support language acquisition through meaning-centred communication, interaction, task-based learning, play and everyday life practices.

Course Content

This course combines the communicative language acquisition approach with a problem-based learning perspective, aimed at children learning Turkish as a second language in early childhood. The course content positions language not as a structure-focused system of knowledge, but as a meaningful tool for communication used in solving real-life problems. Students learn to design meaningful interactive environments and structure language learning through problem-based scenarios in line with the principles of communicative language teaching. In this process, methods such as TPR, Realia, games and role-play are integrated with communicative and problem-solving focused activities. Furthermore, students develop strategies to support children’s language use in multilingual and inclusive classroom environments, and they implement and evaluate the problem-based communicative activities they have designed through microteaching.
