Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to provide a general overview of the development of Egyptian civilization from its earliest periods to the 1st millennium BCE. Within this scope, students are expected to learn the fundamental concepts of Egyptian archaeology, understand the cultural structure of the civilization through archaeological evidence, and evaluate Egypt’s interactions with Anatolia and the broader Near Eastern regions.

Course Content

This course examines the fundamental concepts of Egyptian archaeology within the framework of geography, chronology, and terminology. At the beginning of the course, the history of research and raw material sources are introduced, followed by a chronological overview of the development of Egyptian civilization from the Neolithic period through the dynastic periods to the 1st millennium BCE. Throughout the course, key cultural elements such as architecture, funerary practices, art, ceramics, and daily life are discussed in general terms. Egyptian civilization is also evaluated in relation to Anatolia and neighboring cultural regions, providing a broader comparative perspective.
