Course Goal / Objective
The aim of this course is to enable students to produce original artistic works through working with clay and to provide them with the opportunity to experience the ceramic production process in its formal, aesthetic, and conceptual dimensions. Within this scope, students are expected to develop their relationship with the material, establish connections between technical knowledge and artistic expression, and develop original production processes.
Course Content
This course encompasses a practice-based studio process in ceramic art. Students produce original artistic works by employing various forming techniques using clay. Throughout the process, design development, sketching, form creation, surface treatment, drying, firing, and, when necessary, glazing are addressed. The course is structured around experiencing the production process, developing individual modes of expression, and evaluating the resulting works from aesthetic and conceptual perspectives.
Course Precondition
There are no prerequisites for this course.

Notes
The resources to be used within the scope of this course include written and visual materials, as well as digital platforms that support both theoretical and practical knowledge production in ceramic art. Theses, academic articles, books, exhibition catalogs, and periodicals contribute to the development of students’ historical, technical, and conceptual knowledge in the field of ceramics. In addition, online portfolios and artist pages of contemporary ceramic artists, digital archives, video content, and documentaries provide opportunities to examine production processes and diverse modes of expression. Studies conducted through virtual museum and gallery platforms support students in following current ceramic practices and engaging with international examples. This multidimensional use of resources aims to develop not only students’ technical skills but also their research, analytical, and critical thinking abilities.
Course Learning Outcomes
| Order | Course Learning Outcomes |
|---|---|
| LO01 | Analyzes the physical and plastic properties of clay at an advanced level and consciously directs these properties within the artistic production process. |
| LO02 | Comparatively evaluates different forming techniques in ceramics and selects and applies the most appropriate techniques for the production process. |
| LO03 | Conceptualizes their own artistic production process across conceptual, technical, and aesthetic dimensions and conducts it independently. |
| LO04 | Analyzes the relationships between form, surface, texture, and composition within aesthetic and theoretical frameworks and reflects these in their productions. |
| LO05 | Develops an original and personal language of expression in ceramics and produces high-quality artistic works accordingly. |
| LO06 | Articulates and discusses the artistic production process and the resulting works within a theoretical framework, both in written and oral forms. |
| LO07 | Develops creative and research-based solutions to problems encountered during the production process. |
