Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to ensure that students of the Child Development program understand generative artificial intelligence technologies at a basic level; and to enable them to develop qualified educational materials (digital stories, activity plans, etc.) suitable for the preschool period by using these tools ethically, safely, and in a way that protects children's personal data. Additionally, it aims to equip students with the ability to critically evaluate the cognitive and socio-emotional effects of artificial intelligence applications in early childhood.

Course Content

Basic concepts of artificial intelligence and generative AI; prompt engineering in education; AI-supported preschool material (visual, text, activity) design; pedagogical verification of AI outputs (hallucinations/errors); digital footprint and children's data privacy; technology ethics, open science, and copyright; the developmental effects of AI use in early childhood, and literature review.

LO01 The student defines the basic concepts related to artificial intelligence in their own words and completely, based on the given preschool case examples.
LO02 The student writes generative AI commands (prompts) suitable for the educational purpose, with clear boundaries and context, when given a specific activity scenario.
LO03 The student designs educational materials (digital story, activity plan) suitable for the developmental characteristics of preschool children by using generative AI tools.
LO04 The student verifies the accuracy and pedagogical reliability of the information in the content by comparing it with scientific/academic sources, after examining an educational material produced by AI.
LO05 The student fully applies anonymization steps to protect children's personal data privacy when entering data into AI tools.
LO06 The student acts in accordance with technology ethics rules within the framework of academic integrity principles in all project and assignment preparation processes within the scope of the course.
LO07 The student evaluates the developmental effects of the application in early childhood with its positive and negative aspects, based on evidence, based on a selected AI-supported educational application.
