Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to enable students to understand the immunological basis of immunization and vaccination practices, and to learn current immunization approaches in children, adolescents, adults, older adults, and individuals in special risk groups. At the end of the course, students are expected to know the national immunization schedule, adult immunization principles, vaccine safety and cold chain practices, and nursing approaches to vaccine refusal and hesitancy, and to use this knowledge in nursing practice.

Course Content

This course covers the basic structure and functioning of the immune system, types of immunity, vaccine types, principles of vaccine administration, cold chain, vaccine safety, adverse effects, and vaccination records. Immunization practices in childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and older age are discussed, together with immunization in pregnancy, chronic diseases, immunocompromised individuals, healthcare workers, travel, military service, and outbreak situations. Nursing approaches to vaccine refusal and vaccine hesitancy are also addressed.
