Course Goal / Objective
To teach the botanical characteristics of dye plants, the natural dyestuffs they contain, and the methods for extracting these substances from the plant.
Course Content
History of natural dyeing, classification of dye plants, and introduction to important local and global dye plants. Chemical structures of plant dyestuffs (flavonoids, anthraquinones, carotenoids, etc.) and extraction technologies. Theory of mordanting, types of mordants, and control of dyeing parameters (pH, temperature, duration)
