Course Goal / Objective

The objectives of this course are to teach postharvest physiological processes, quality changes, and causes of losses in horticultural products; to introduce sustainable practices aimed at reducing environmental impacts during postharvest processes; and to provide knowledge and skills for the proper use of environmentally friendly storage technologies such as cold chain, modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), edible coatings and sustainable storage systems.

Course Content

This course covers postharvest physiological processes, quality changes and causes of quality losses in horticultural products, environmentally friendly postharvest treatments, pre-cooling, sustainable storage techniques, modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), edible coatings, and modern technologies for maintaining product quality.
